FAQs - First Time & Home Studio Clients

  • I’ve never gotten a tattoo before—what should I expect?

Expect a conversation, a ritual, and a bit of a buzz. We’ll start with a consultation where we talk through your idea, placement, size, and meaning. On the day of your appointment, you’ll arrive at a clean, private studio. I’ll walk you through everything before we begin, and we’ll go at a pace that feels right for you.

  • Does it hurt?

Yes—but not in a way that’s unbearable. Most people describe it as scratchy, warm, or spicy. I’ll check in with you often, and breaks are always okay. It’s your body, your boundary, your experience.

  • How should I prepare for my appointment?

Eat a good meal beforehand and stay hydrated

    Avoid alcohol or blood thinners

Wear comfy clothes that give access to the tattoo area

Bring headphones or a book if you want something to help you relax

  • What makes a home studio different?

A home studio is quieter, more personal, and intentionally curated. At Shadow and Needle, privacy and safety are sacred. You won’t find foot traffic or loud distractions—just a clean, licensed space focused entirely on you and your piece.

  • Is your studio licensed and clean?

Yes. Shadow and Needle is fully licensed in the state of Washington and meets strict hygiene standards. I use single-use, sterilized equipment and follow professional-grade sanitation procedures before and after each session.

  • Can I bring someone with me?

In most cases, yes—but please let me know in advance. My studio is small and designed for quiet focus, so one guest is the maximum. No kids or animals, please.

  • Do you take walk-ins?

No. All sessions are by appointment only so I can give every client my full attention.

  • What’s your cancellation policy?

Life happens. I ask for 48 hours' notice for cancellations or reschedules. Deposits are non-refundable but can be transferred if proper notice is given.

  • Do you do touch-ups?

Yes—free within the first year. Just reach out if your piece needs a little extra love

  • Will you design a tattoo for me based on my story or vibe?

Absolutely. Custom work is my heart and soul. If you come with feelings, themes, or symbols, I’ll help translate them into something visual and lasting.

  • Do you have flash art?

Yup! I have a book in the studio you are free to browse through and pick from.

  • How much will this cost?

No two stories are the same—your design, its scale, and the time it takes to craft all shape the price. I’ll give you a clear quote after we talk through your idea.
